From Oulu to the World: A Look at Screentec’s Latest Projects

The past few months at Screentec have been filled with innovation, collaboration, and exciting showcases. From presenting our latest developments at international trade fairs to advancing sustainable electronics and refining new demonstrators, we’ve been actively engaging with industry experts, forging valuable connections, and exploring new possibilities in printed electronics.

Paper-Based Electrodes with Sustronics

Screentec produces nearly a hundred different types of custom single-use electrodes each year. Recognizing the environmental impact of fossil-based substrates and silver-based conductive pastes, Screentec aims to lead the way to more sustainable solutions by transitioning from traditional materials to more eco-friendly alternatives.

Through the EU-funded Sustronics project, in collaboration with Movesense Oy and other partners, we have developed and tested paper-based ECG electrodes. These electrodes utilize copper and carbon-based conductive pastes, offering a sustainable yet cost-effective solution without compromising functionality or processability. The results so far have been promising, paving the way for a greener future in medical technology.

Textile-Integrated Electrodes

The seamless integration of electronics into textiles is transforming health monitoring and sports performance analysis. Our textile-integrated electrodes bring flexibility and comfort to wearable medical technology, making continuous health monitoring more accessible and user-friendly.

Our collaboration with Movesense and Protex Balti AS has resulted in a groundbreaking ECG sensor vest, enabling real-time collection, analysis, and transmission of vital health data such as ECG, heart rate, and movement. This technology provides new possibilities for remote patient monitoring, offering healthcare providers more efficient tools to track patient well-being from a distance.

By delivering a full-service package – from concept and design to manufacturing – we can help medical device companies and healthcare operators seamlessly enter the wearable electronics market. This joint demonstrator, showcased at MEDICA and the E-Textiles Conference, highlights how combining expertise leads to groundbreaking advancements.

Illuminating Innovation: Origami Luminaire

One of our most recent projects is the LED origami demonstrator, which blends printed electronics and interactive design. This concept integrates LED components with conductive traces on paper, forming functional origami structures that showcase the versatility of printed electronics.

At LOPEC 2025, our own Mikko Paakkolanvaara presents this demonstrator and participates in a live demo competition, highlighting how printed electronics can create engaging and interactive applications. From educational tools to innovative display technologies, this project opens new possibilities for creative and functional electronic designs.

At Screentec, we go beyond contract manufacturing – we are partners in innovation. At Screentec, we focus on being a reliable partner in product development. Our team works closely with clients to help bring their ideas to life, whether it is through sustainable materials, flexible electronics, or next-generation prototypes. With our expertise, we support customers in creating tailored solutions for medical and industrial applications.
